Sacyr continues to be committed to environmental sustainability. Through EMMASA, its invested company, (Empresa Mixta de Aguas de Santa Cruz de Tenerife) it has installed two photovoltaic infrastructures for self-consumption purposes and which have a total power of 88 kilowatts, which allow covering approximately 23% of the annual energy expenditure and avoid the emission into the atmosphere of 122,851 kg of CO2 per year.
Environmental certifications
The improvements in the water management cycle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife have enabled EMMASA to obtain in 2018 the Energy Management Certificate, which guarantees that the company complies with the international standard ISO 50001. This regulation acknowledges the continuous search in terms of efficiency, safety and energy saving in its daily activity and ensures the company will continue working in these areas in order to renew this guarantee periodically.
In addition, it has also renewed the certifications that guarantee its quality and environmental management: the ISO 9001 standard determines the requirements for a Quality Management System. ISO 14001 is the international standard for environmental management systems (EMS), which helps the water company to identify, prioritize and manage risks for the environment, as part of its usual practices.
Efficient use of water
EMMASA has also encouraged other preventive actions that improve the efficient use of water: the leakage control plan, the installation of water pressure management systems, as well as the selective renewal of meters, among others.
