Today, the consortium led by Valoriza, together with ACCIONA and OHLA, starts providing the waste collection service in the eastern area of Madrid (Lot 2), in the districts of Retiro, Salamanca, Chamartín, Moratalaz, Ciudad Lineal, Hortaleza, Vicálvaro, San Blas -Canillejas and Barajas. In total, these districts have an approximate population of 1.2 million inhabitants. The contract has a six-year duration.
Service to the citizen, the separation of waste by different fractions at source and sustainability are the foundations of this new contract, converging in compliance with the new waste law.
One of the most outstanding improvements provided by the consortium is the progressive upgrade of the fleet vehicles and machine equipment for a newer, more efficient and sustainable one, in line with the environmental commitment of the city of Madrid.
The new vehicles that will be incorporated will be powered by ‘ZERO emissions’ electric engines and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) engines with ECO environmental rating, in line with the main objective of reducing the environmental impact generated by the service. Moreover, the service will be powered by electricity from renewable sources.
The new contract will more than double the frequency of collection of paper-cardboard waste and will also increase the frequency in all districts the collection of cardboard discarded by shops in its busiest areas. This will be possible thanks to an 50% increase in the number of staff dedicated to this purpose and a more than 100% increase of top-loading trucks.
The entire waste collection service will be managed by the new digital applications that will result in an ergonomic and rational service, reducing its interaction with the rest of the city's life.
