Sacyr was awarded infrastructure projects for 1,950 million euros (+ 33%) in 2018

The contracting of the construction division amounted to 2,824 million euros last year taking into account the projects awarded in December and signed during 2019.

The construction backlog of Sacyr's infrastructure subsidiary closed the year at 6,183 million euros, 5.4% up compared to 2017.

Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructure was awarded construction contracts in 2018 for a total volume of 1,950 million euros, 33% more than in 2017. Adding the contracts awarded in December, and signed after the closing, it amounts to 2,824 million euros.

Among the new projects, 1,317 million euros correspond to civil works contracts and 634 million euros to construction contracts. Latin America accounts for 41.3% of these projects; Spain, 22.7%; United States, 16.3%; the rest of Europe, 15.3%; and Africa and the Middle East for 4.4%.

Thanks to these new awards, the construction backlog of Sacyr's infrastructure subsidiary closed December at 6,182 million euros, 5.4% up compared to December last year. By geographical areas, the work backlog is distributed as follows: Spain (12%), rest of Europe (38%), Latin America (39.5%), Middle East and Africa (5.5%) and the United States (5%).

Strong growth in Spain

In Spain, the new projects awarded in 2018 amounted to 442.5 million euros, with a growth of 122%. 

Among the projects in which Sacyr participates, the following stand out: the section of LAV Murcia - Almería (section: Los Arejos - Níjar), for 98 million euros; the expansion of the port of Langosteira in A Coruña, for 40 million euros; the expansion of the South Dike Building of the El Prat airport (Barcelona), for 28.3 million euros; lot 4 of the construction works of the road tunnels in the Plaza de las Glòries in Barcelona, for 24.6 million euros; the construction of a four-star hotel in La Manga del Mar Menor (Murcia), for 11 million euros; and the expansion of a private hospital in the Community of Madrid, for 18 million euros.

Entry into the United States

The new international projects awarded last year totaled 1,508 million euros, 20% higher than the previous year. In 2018 Sacyr was able to fulfill one of its objectives of the Strategic Plan 2015-2020: entry into the United States with infrastructure projects that already total 317.4 million euros.

The international contracts in which Sacyr participates, among others, include: the East line of the Fortaleza Metro (Brazil), for 350 million euros; the SR23 road in Jacksonville for the Department of Transportation of Florida (United States), for 202 million euros; the A6 highway between Dungiven - Drumahoe Dualling (Northern Ireland, United Kingdom) for 162 million euros.

In Latin America the following contracts stand out: Alto Hospicio Hospital (Chile), for 95 million euros; San Andrés de Cholula Hospital (Mexico), for 70.4 million; the Sports Village of Callao for the Pan-American Games in Lima (Peru), for 43.7 million; the Esmeralda reservoir (Colombia), for 32.6 million; El Tepual airport in Puerto Montt (Chile), for 32.5 million.
