Sacyr has approved seven corporate policies that promote its sustainability strategy and step up its collaboration with its stakeholders.
These sustainability policies include specific measures in relation to biodiversity; water; climate change; data security; human rights; occupational health and safety; and quality, environment and energy management.
In March, with the aim of strengthening its corporate governance bodies in their commitment to a more sustainable future, Sacyr created a Sustainability and Corporate Governance Committee, attached to the Board of Directors, and a Sustainability Committee.
Biodiversity Policy
Sacyr works on the development of methods aimed at the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems; stopping loss of biological diversity; the rehabilitation of degraded soils; and the mobilization and increase of financial resources for their conservation and use.
Water Policy
This policy takes into account the limited availability of this resource, its quality and the balance of the ecosystems in which Sacyr operates by adopting practices of care, use, conservation and sustainable water management.
Climate Change Policy
Sacyr is committed to saving energy and controlling atmospheric emissions. It has been measuring its carbon footprint since 2015 and has successfully cut its emissions each year since then. In 2018 alone, Sacyr reduced its total emissions by the equivalent of the emissions generated in powering the city of Madrid for a whole day. It is a signatory of the Circular Economy Pact, which champions efficient waste management. More than 2,300 group suppliers were assessed in 2019 as part of the group's commitment to responsible supply chain management.
Data Security Policy
Sacyr is committed to the continuous improvement of its Data Security Management System as one of the key factors of its activities to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information and to protect data and information systems from improper access and unauthorized changes.
Human Rights Policy
Sacyr is committed to the monitoring and fulfillment of the Human Rights of the more than 40,000 people working within the organization and the various stakeholders with which it associates in its activity. To this end, it has numerous initiatives such as Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Plans (involving more than 1,200 workers with disabilities). The group is certified as a Family-Responsible Company in Spain and already has over 90 measures in place to provide a healthier work–life balance.
It has developed more than 40 outreach projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and human rights. Through the Sacyr Foundation, the group manages a corporate volunteering program involving more than 600 volunteer employees, whose invaluable support has benefited over 100,000 people.
Occupational Health and Safety Policy
Sacyr prioritizes the adoption of measures to control and manage health and safety risks in all of its activities, from their planning through to their implementation. Therefore, the companies that make up the wider group have a total of 43 ISO 45001 Health and Safety certifications between them, effectively ensuring the sound management of occupational risks and the adoption of safety and prevention measures. Sacyr Group companies also run regular programs to improve the health (such as the Sports Club) and training of their employees.
Quality, Environment and Energy Management Policy
Sacyr regards quality, respect for the environment, energy efficiency and high quality testing services as fundamental factors in the execution of its activities, with the objective of achieving customer satisfaction by fulfilling their requirements and ensuring user satisfaction. All of this is under the fundamental premise of harmonizing its commitment to the environment and improving energy performance.
