We have been chosen winners of the National Innovation and Design Award 2022 in the Large Company category. These awards given by the Ministry for Science and Innovation recognize our business model based on innovation conceived as a strategic value.
With this award, the Government of Spain highlights our approach to facing the digitization and ecological transition challenges to find new business opportunities based on open innovation and public-private cooperation.
To us, innovation is the driver for change that allows us to be more efficient, make better decisions, differentiate ourselves from our competitors and create new business models.
In 2021, Sacyr developed 42 projects and allocated a€10.5 million budget dedicated to innovation. Nearly 300 professionals at Sacyr are involved in some kind of innovative initiative.
Innovation and sustainability
Innovation and sustainability go hand in hand, as this is one of the core focuses of the company. We work on projects to minimize our carbon emissions, consume less energy in our operations, improve our management of water resources, and recover waste to reincorporate it into the production chain.
Our strategic framework includes a sound open innovation program that brings in the best external talent to the company’s capacities.
Sacyr iChallenges
Sacyr iChallenges is the cornerstone of open innovation. In this year’s edition, we have received 276 proposals to solve the four business challenges issued to the community. It is also an international program, with submissions coming from 34 different countries.
Innovation is also achieved by creating company culture and awareness. Which is why we get our employees involved in a company-wide transformation process via training, awareness-raising, communication, and recognition of innovative drive. In 2021, more than 1,000 professionals underwent innovation training, and more than 3,600 attended our monthly innovation sessions.
