Gregorio Marañón Hospital (Madrid) renovation and expansion

Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructure developed the new surgical wing and Oncology Institute at one of Spain’s landmark healthcare facilities: Gregorio Marañón University General Hospital in Madrid.

Gregorio Marañón Hospital in Madrid

Renovation of the Oncology Institute will entail remodeling the entire building to facilitate reorganization of the functional areas and services. Plans include the implementation of circulation hubs to streamline the movement of patients and professionals, more spaces with natural light, and individual rooms. Accessibility ramps have been repaired. In addition, Sacyr promotes energy efficiency measures throughout the building.

The project encompasses more than 15,000 m2 intended for cancer treatment facilities, nearly 2,000 m2 of which correspond to expansion works.

Improved quality of care thanks to new surgical wing

Sacyr’s surgical wing expands the center’s area by 14,000 m2 and unifies all of the hospital’s operating theaters (30 in total), increasing the efficiency of the facility’s services.

The new surgical wing is attached to the hospital, unifying the post-surgical recovery bays with support services to improve the quality of care and optimize functionality.

The surgical wing will rely on a 46.8-kWp solar energy production facility consisting of 156 solar panels designed for faster and more compact heat dissipation. This installation will connect directly to the main low-voltage panel in order to reduce the energy consumption of the network.
