Sacyr's subsidiary, Sacyr Water, is a leader in integrated water cycle management. Specialized in the design, construction, renovation, maintenance, and operation of various water treatment and distribution infrastructures, the company stands out for its innovative approach and commitment to sustainability

With over 100 reverse osmosis plants under its belt, Sacyr Water has participated in emblematic projects worldwide, including large-scale desalination plants in Binningup (Australia), Águilas (Spain), Sohar (Oman), and Skikda and Honaine (Algeria). Additionally, the company is responsible for building the world's largest reversible electrodialysis plant, located in Abrera.

Eduardo Campos, CEO of Sacyr Water, highlighted: "Joining the Scientific Park allows us to access a large innovation ecosystem with innovators and potential partners for projects, as well as a great center for talent acquisition. Furthermore, it deepens our historical relationship with the University of Alicante, with whom we collaborate on numerous research projects from various departments and teaching activities."

UA rector Amparo Navarro pointed out that "at UA, we have researchers and studies on the use and optimization of water. Some examples are the Water Institute, the Institute of Geography, the Master's in Environmental Law, or the Climate Change Laboratory, among others. Undoubtedly, we are benchmarks in this field, and having Sacyr Water's incorporation into our Scientific Park is undoubtedly great news. We are sure that we will continue to deepen the relationships we already have with them, both in synergies with our researchers and in talent acquisition among our graduates.

Sacyr Water

Sacyr Water’s work encompasses all stages in integrated water cycle management: supplying water to over 9.5 million inhabitants in different countries, including Spain, Chile, Australia, Oman, and Algeria. With a daily production of more than 2.2 million cubic meters of water, the company supplies water to over 14.6 million people per day, situating itself as a leader in the production of desalinated water for agricultural use.

One of Sacyr Water's most notable milestones is its commitment to sustainability. The company became the first in its sector to verify and certify its Water Footprint with AENOR, thus demonstrating its responsible approach to the water resource. Thanks to its desalination and reuse activities, Sacyr Water has managed to certify its water balance as positive, producing more water than it consumes.

In addition to its commitment to sustainability, Sacyr Water strongly advocates for innovation. The company conducts numerous research activities in the field of sustainable desalination, exploring technologies such as energy production with saline gradients, brine mining, and nutrient recovery with microalgae.

Sustainability and Innovation

This commitment to sustainability and innovation has been recognized with the National Innovation Award in 2022, and in 2023, the Spanish Association of Desalination and Reuse (AEDyR) named Sacyr Water the most sustainable company in the sector. With a clear alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ESG values (environmental, social, and governance), Sacyr Water consolidates itself as a key global player in responsible water management.
