In the process of incineration of MSW are generated among other by-products, slag and ashes. The slag stream contains precious metals and others of great economic value, and material that can be marketed as an aggregate for use in construction, depending on the presence of metals that can contaminate it.
Current plant separation equipment, in most cases, is not economically viable at the end of the flow and manual triage or shipment to landfill is being used. Therefore, it is important to undertake new technological developments capable of proposing technically and economically viable alternatives in order to be able to recover this waste before it is sent to landfill.
