Our contribution to the high-speed railway in the Northwest

Today, King Felipe VI and PM Pedro Sánchez, have inaugurated the AVE (Spanish high-speed rail) to Galicia, which connects Madrid to this region

Today, King Felipe VI and PM Pedro Sánchez, have inaugurated the AVE (Spanish high-speed rail) to Galicia, which connects Madrid to this region, significantly reducing travel times between Madrid and the Galician cities; from Ourense, travel times will be reduced by 1 hour and 28 minutes and in the case of the rest of large Galician cities, the AVE will reduce travel times by an average of 1 hour. 

Our participation in this great railway axis with Northwestern Spain has been very relevant with actions that add up to 40.50 km of platform and 30 km of track with a global investment of more than €600 million in both corridors: the Atlantic Axis Corridor and the North-Northwest Corridor. These are the sections we have executed:

 

  • Remodeling of the Santiago de Compostela Station and its historic canopy, in addition to the construction of platforms and two underpasses to connect them.
  • Portocamba-Campobecerros Platform Section (Orense) of 4,200 meters with 7,233 m of tunnel excavated by blasting.
  • Carballiño-Lalín Platform section of 13,280 meters. Three tunnels excavated in rock with a total length of 5,995 meters and 1,740 meters of viaducts executed using a movable scaffolding system.
  • Cerponzons-Portella Platform and track section of 6,248 meters with the execution of three viaducts (100,770 and 58 meters) and a tunnel (1,160 meters).
  • Pontevedra-Cerponzons Platform and track section of 6,843.5 meters. It included the complete remodeling of the Pontevedra station and three false tunnels with a total length of 760 meters.
  • Assembly of the Villagarcía de Arousa-Padrón track section. 25.7 km of track assembly (ballast and slab) on conventional and UIC gauge on polyvalent railroad ties.
  • The Meirama-Bregua Tunnel (A Coruña), with a length of 5,337 meters, included the construction of a 900-meter cut-and-cover tunnel, a 2,600-meter tunnel using the Austrian method, and two viaducts of 744 and 314 meters.
  • The 4.6 km Bregua Bypass included a 3,834 m double track tunnel with a 92.5 m2 loading gauge, the construction of a 100-m-long siding in Boedo and the installation of an Iberian gauge railway on a polyvalent double-track railroad ties.
