Diversity, Inclusion, and Work-Life Balance: Keys to Understanding the Present and Future of the Job Market

The globalization we've seen over the last two decades has led to a profound transformation of society at every level we imagine. It has also had major repercussions on the present in economic, social, technological, and legal dimensions, to name a few.

The globalization we've seen over the last two decades has led to a profound transformation of society.

These social changes have prompted companies to modify their way of relating to their environment, including their own employees.

Diversity and inclusion (D&I) management at organizations has been on every company's management and talent management agendas for years. Beyond the fact that these concepts are in vogue, why are organizations interested in working on their partners' diversity and inclusion?

Various reports released by McKinsey Global Institute in recent years* confirm the following points:

Financially, the company will do better in direct relation to its team's diversity. Diversity is competitiveness – and a magnet for attracting talent.
Companies are committing to diversity and inclusion policies left and right.

More diverse workplaces

But what are the keys to making our workplace a more diverse, inclusive place? Here are four points that every D&I strategy must have.

  1. Articulate and cascade the CEO's commitment to moving the organization forward
  2. Define diversity and inclusion priorities based on a situational diagnosis and the business growth strategy.
  3. Craft a specific portfolio of diversity and inclusion initiatives to transform the organization
  4. Tailor the strategy to maximize local impact.

Diversity and Inclusion at Sacyr

At Sacyr, we are deeply committed to diversity and inclusion. Our teams are made up of people of different profiles, cultures, and origins, as well as an array of factors such as race, gender, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation...

We are diverse and inclusive, and we want to attract and retain the best talent, bar none.

We are committed to diversity and inclusion!

We're committed to creating work environments where all of our professionals are responsible for treating others with the utmost respect. There's zero tolerance for any discrimination.

Our Corporate Diversity and Inclusion Policy defines our strategy globally, and we have guidelines for its implementation and development in every country where we operate.

Our strategy

We're a sponsoring partner of the Fundación para la Diversidad (the Foundation for Diversity), and we've renewed our commitment to abide by the Diversity Charter. In 2020, we were recognized as one of the 30 companies most committed to diversity for the second year running.

Our diversity map shows us where we are and enables us to measure our policies and projects' effectiveness. On our MySacyr intranet, we've started the diversity and work-life balance channel as a space for sharing documentation and news.

We created the Sacyr diversitylabs as a forum for analysis and new proposals in the different areas where we work:

We encourage our employees to balance their professional, family, and personal lives with more than 90 measures. These have earned us the MasFamilia foundation's "efr" recognition as a company that acts responsibly towards family life.

Sacyr Concilia

The most notable of these include:

A Corporate Flex Working Policy to allow for flexibly organizing one's time and workspace and honoring the right to digital disconnection, which was recognized as a finalist in best practices at the Alares Awards for work-life balance.

Sacyr Balances:

  • Days without school: On business days with no school, activities are organized for staff's children ages 3 to 14.
  • Agreements with various nurseries and educational centers. Moreover, leisure alternatives are regularly provided for children whose parents work during the summer and vacation period.

We encourage a co-responsible attitude to continue moving forward with a model of shared roles through awareness days to celebrate International Day of Families (May 15), as well as the National Day of Work-Life Balance and Co-Responsibility.
