We have met a new challenge in Chile. The Quillota-Petorca Biprovincial Hospital has a total built surface area of 74,221 m2, six stories high and one basement, structured in concrete frames.
More than 300,000 residents of the regions of Quillota and Petorca will benefit from this highly complex hospital, which will have 282 beds, 3 wards, 42 ICUs and ITUs.
This hospital is the first in Chile to obtain the CES sustainable building standard seal of certification, certifying its quality in areas like innovation, water saving, energy efficiency and waste management.
On November 19, Sebastián Piñera, the President of Chile, led the hospital’s inauguration ceremony and highlighted that "it is a great joy and a source of great excitement to be able to fulfill today a commitment that we solemnly assumed: to give these provinces the hospital of the category that they deserve and need", and recognized Sacyr for the construction of the hospital within the established deadline.
Anti-seismic system
The health center has a sophisticated anti-seismic system with 350 isolators and sliders that convert the entire area into an isolated surface that would be able to withstand an earthquake of 9.5 on the Richter scale. In addition, the hospital has an independent electrical connection and an independent water supply that could provide service for up to 72 hours.
Hospitals
This is the second high-complexity hospital we have delivered in Chile, where we are building five more, that total more than 2,400 beds and almost 629,000 m2, including the hospitals of Antofagasta, already in operation (in a P3) Buin Paine (also in a P3), Alto Hospicio, Sótero del Río, Cordillera and Villarrica.
