Ferrocarril Central Railway refinance (Uruguay)

In 2022, Grupo Vía Central, responsible for the construction of the Ferrocarril Central, closed a US$ 250 million credit line deal through a fixed-rate B bond with IDB Invest.

Revenues will be used to refinance the project’s existing debt, thus improving the project’s general financing terms and conditions.

This new operation is complementary to a US$536 million (€500 million) financing package.

The Grupo Vía Central consortium, led by Sacyr, and Saceem, Berkes and NGE, oversees the financing, design, consturction and maintenance of 273 km for railways connecting Montevideo and Paso de Los Toros.

The Ferrocarril Central development created around 1,400 direct jobs and benefits over 2,800 people tied to local commerce and services. Moreover, the new infrastructure will have a positive impact on the local agricultural, forest and industry activities.
