Six tips for jobseekers

Social networks, ongoing training, mastery of new technology and soft skills are all necessary to find work in a post-COVID environment.

The global health crisis has overturned the work environment and changed the rules of access.

What sectors are in highest demand at the moment? What are the most sought-after technical skills, or hard skills? How important are interpersonal skills, or soft skills?

If you are actively looking for new job opportunities, take note of these six tips from our Human Resources team.

Look in sectors with the highest demand
The more offers, the better the chances of finding a job. It’s that simple. The pandemic has dealt a major blow to many production sectors, while others have thrived. Such is the case with food, education, health, pharma, hygiene, logistics, and technology. In addition to these sectors, the most sought-after profiles at the moment are those corresponding to sales, marketing, customer service, and new technologies, such as artificial intelligence and big data.
Master the tech
Telecommuting, videoconferences, online meetings, telematic interviews, digital workshops, etc. Digitization defines the new workplace reality. Whereas before it was important to know how to function in this environment, now it is essential to master these new technological tools, not only to access a certain position, but to qualify for the preliminary selection process.
Improve your soft skills
Did you know that 92% of recruiters consider soft skills as important or more important than technological know-how? In an unpredictable and constantly evolving work context, positive, tenacious people who are capable of adapting quickly to change, creating teams, and generating new ideas and business opportunities are sought.
Train!
Both hard skills and soft skills can be improved. The new environment demands constantly updating your skillset through upskillingand reskilling). At Sacyr, we promote the ongoing training of our professionals. As Eva Merino, our Head of Training, explains, “Learning and training are key factors in ensuring the survival of our organizations.”
Learn to use social media to find a job
Don’t underestimate the power of networking in the job search. Plumb the offers on specialized and general job sites. Share useful and interesting information with your contacts. Stay on top of your profile, appearance and contacts: use your social media platforms to showcase your personal brand.

Prepare for your job interview

The personal interview is a pivotal moment in the selection process. Gather information and show interest in the company; make it clear why you are the best candidate for the position; anticipate the recruiter’s questions and prepare your own.

For video interviews, check that everything works properly. Choose a neutral background, a quiet setting, and look directly into the camera. Above all be positive: finding your ideal job is a challenge that requires determination and perseverance. Don’t give up!
